Greenroom will also rebrand as “Spotify Live” as part of these changes. Last month, Spotify announced it will integrate the live audio capabilities from its companion app, Spotify Greenroom, within the main Spotify streaming app. The news comes as Spotify has been making some changes to its apps. The app provided a minimalist listening experience that seems to have appealed to some users.Īs of Friday morning, the Stations app has disappeared from both the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store, but the app itself seems to be functional for the time being to allow current users to move their stations to the main app. Spotify Stations is appealing to those who prefer a simpler user interface, as Spotify’s flagship app’s look-and-feel isn’t something that everyone likes. Spotify Stations has been considered an experiment by Spotify, and by some others, a Pandora copycat due to its support for instant music playback at launch. Spotify Radio is a feature in the main app that creates a playlist based on any song, album, playlist or artist you select. The company says that while it doesn’t take sunsetting services lightly, Spotify Radio provides a similar listening experience to Stations so listeners can use that instead. Spotify hasn’t elaborated on the reason behind its decision to shut down Stations, but notes that users can move all of their favorite stations to the main Spotify app to continue listening to them. We will be sunsetting the current feature, but users will be able to easily transfer their favorite stations and enjoy a similar radio experience directly within the Spotify app.” Our Spotify Stations Beta was one of those tests. Shares of audio platform Spotify Technology ( SPOT 0.93) were down 20.2 in September, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. “Some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. “At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of experiments to create better listening experiences for our users,” a spokesperson for Spotify said in a statement to TechCrunch. Spotify Stations first launched in Australia in 2018 and later rolled out in the United States in 2019. The Stations app was originally designed for those who want a more radio-like experience, rather than having to seek out music or customize their own playlists. The company told TechCrunch that the app and web player will no longer be available after this date. You can also still listen via the web player and through connected speakers like Sonos.Īs the tweet above notes, Spotify seem to be aware of the issue and is currently investigating so we can only hope this will be a short outage and we’ll be back to the regular service very soon.Spotify Stations, the streaming service’s lightweight listening app offering easy access to curated playlists, is shutting down on May 16. IF SPOTIFY DOWN ANDROIDTry opening the app on Android and things work as normal and we’ve again tested this on a few different Android devices. This seems an odd issue, as its the app as a whole that isn’t working, rather than streams just not playing. IF SPOTIFY DOWN PROWe’ve tested this on a couple of various iOS devices – iPhone 11 Pro and iPad Pro 2020 – and both start up briefly, sometimes show a flash of the music library screen but then crash. Perhaps publish this as a current problem instead of all complaining custumers advising to reboot. Deleting the app and reinstalling or restarting the phone also doesn’t help the situation – we’ve tried both so you don’t have to. Hardly ideal when you want to listen to that crafted playlist while you’re working. While the service seems to still be working on Android, the web and through Sonos streaming speakers, try to open the app on iOS and you’ll be thrown straight back to your homescreen. UPDATE: The Verge is reporting that other apps are affected too, including TikTok and Tinder, and that it might be a Facebook SDK problem. We’re currently investigating, and we’ll keep you posted here! This news has spread throughout Twitter and Spotify itself has responded. Spotify’s iOS apps seem to be having problems at the minute, with the service crashing on all the iOS devices we tested it on it. It seems that the music streaming service isn’t currently working for some users, with its iOS apps currently completely unresponsive. UPDATE: It seems that the issue has been fixed and we can now get Spotify working again on our iOS devices.
